In His Presence: Where Physical Healing Begins
In His Presence: Where Physical Healing Begins
Journey to Healing Series | Mark 5:25–34 | Pastor Tammy Long
Quick Glance: For Your Heart Today
Some of us have experienced physical healing and rejoiced. Others are still waiting, still praying. Still wondering. Physical pain has a way of getting our attention—whether it’s chronic, sudden, or simply a result of aging. And for many, the hardest part is not just the pain itself, but the discouragement and delay.
Jesus can and does heal. Physical healing still happens today. But Jesus is interested in more than our physical bodies. Healing isn’t only about fixing what’s broken on the outside—it’s about restoring wholeness from the inside out.
The story of the woman who touched His robe reminds us: healing may come in unexpected ways. But in Jesus’ presence, healing always begins—not just in our bodies, but in our souls.

Physical Healing Begins in His Presence
Good Morning, Family,
We’ve been on a journey these past few weeks—a Journey to Healing. And again and again, we’ve discovered the same truth: healing begins in Jesus’ presence.
In His presence, our minds find peace—peace that calms anxiety and restores clarity. In His presence, our hearts receive comfort—in the middle of grief, disappointment, or sorrow. In His presence, our relationships begin to mend—as we learn to see ourselves and others through His eyes.
And today—we bring our bodies into that same presence. Today, we turn to physical healing.
Some of us have experienced healing—and we love those testimonies. They inspire and encourage us. Others are still on the journey—praying, hoping, waiting. Some are living with the long-term realities of chronic pain. Some are adjusting to aging bodies that no longer move the way they once did. And others are carrying diagnoses that showed up suddenly—unexpected, unwanted, overwhelming.
Now you may not be facing any physical challenges at all – but the likelihood is that at some point you will, and that you know someone who is. And what’s more, no matter where you find yourself, praying for physical healing can be hard. Because it’s easy to grow discouraged—when nothing changes. It’s easy to stop praying—when it feels like your prayers are going nowhere. And it’s easy to become afraid to hope—because we don’t want to be disappointed.
Well today, we’re going to enter into Jesus’ presence with a woman who knew all of those feelings well but dared to persevere with bold trust in God. And in Jesus’ presence, she experienced healing she never expected.

Unpacking the Text
By the time we reach Mark 5, Jesus is surrounded by crowds. Word has spread. He’s calmed a storm. Delivered a man tormented by demons. And now, as He crosses back over the lake, the people are waiting.
One of them is Jairus—a synagogue leader pleading for his daughter’s life. Jesus agrees to go with him. It’s urgent. And that’s where we step into the story this morning. This woman—she’s not the main appointment. But she steps into Jesus’ presence.
Now, we aren’t told her name. She is introduced to us by her suffering and pain. And we learn that it’s been twelve long years. Twelve years of nonstop bleeding. And according to the Jewish law of the day, her condition made her unclean—not just physically, but spiritually, socially, and religiously.
She wouldn’t have been allowed to worship in the synagogue. Everything she touched became unclean. Everyone she brushed up against became unclean. So to be in that crowd that day—she was breaking the rules. She was supposed to keep her distance from everyone and everything. And yet... she came anyway. Quietly, from behind. She didn’t want to be seen. She just wanted to be healed and slip away unnoticed.
“If I can just touch his robe,” she thought. In that culture, the edge of a rabbi’s robe—especially the tassels—represented the Word of God and His authority. So when she reached for His robe, it wasn’t superstition. It wasn’t about the garment, but about the person connected to it.
Her faith said, “If I can just get close enough…” And the moment she touched Him—she felt it in her body. The bleeding stopped. She was immediately healed.

She Came for Healing, But Received Wholeness
Then something happened that she didn’t expect. Jesus stops and asks, “Who touched me?” The disciples don’t say what they’re really thinking, but you can hear it in their tone—“Really, Jesus?
Everyone’s touching you.” But Jesus knows exactly what He’s asking and why. This touch was different. It was much more than a bump or a brush. This touch literally drained something from Him.
And here’s the part not to miss: As Jesus scanned the crowd closest to Him, He knew who had touched Him—and He waited.
She had reached out to Him for the gift of healing. But in His presence, Jesus wanted to give her something more. He wanted to give more of Himself. He wanted a relationship. Jesus didn’t just want to heal her body—He wanted to engage with her personally, give her dignity back, and reinstate her standing in the community.
She comes forward—afraid, trembling—and she tells Jesus the whole truth. And I can imagine the crowd waiting to see what Jesus will say and do. Because potentially her actions made everyone around her—including Jesus—unclean.
But Jesus resets her reality. In front of everyone, He calls her “Daughter.” Not a troublemaker. Not unclean. But Daughter. It’s the only time recorded that Jesus uses that word. It’s personal. It speaks of belonging and love.
“Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.”
She came for healing. But in His presence—she received something so much greater.
She received wholeness. She received the Giver, not just the gift.

What About Us? Reaching Out in Faith
Family, this woman’s story may be ancient—but it speaks into our lives right now.
Some of us—or people we love—are just like her. We’ve been suffering—maybe for twelve weeks, twelve years, or longer. We’ve tried everything—doctors, prescriptions, procedures, prayers. Some of us have quietly stopped praying—because it hurts too much to hope.
But here you are—still in the crowd. Still holding on—even if only barely. And Jesus sees and honors that.
So here’s the invitation today:
Will you reach out again—not just for the gift of healing, but for the Giver?
Because the healing Jesus offers is always about more than the symptoms. It’s about the soul. And healing always begins in His presence.
We too are invited to come. To reach out in our own way. To bring our bodies into His presence and offer them to Him in prayer.
Whether you’re seeking healing for yourself, or interceding for someone you love, this is a moment to simply be with Jesus—and to invite His healing presence into every part of the body.
Let’s take this time now for guided prayer. Quiet your heart. Settle your body. And allow yourself to meet Jesus in this sacred space.

Guided Prayer: For Physical Healing in His Presence
Let’s begin by taking a deep breath in… and slowly let it out.
Now… Welcome Jesus into this moment, into this space.
Like the woman who reached for the edge of His robe,
You just need to reach—in hope and trust.
Begin to gently scan your body—starting at the top of your head.
If there is pain… tension… illness…
Invite Jesus to place His hand there.
Imagine His touch—steady, warm, full of compassion.
Let His healing flow:
Now pause—and simply rest in His presence.
Jesus is the Healer.
And in His presence, healing begins.
You can ask Jesus for healing because He is good and cares about you.
He may not heal the way we desire, but we can ask because He is near, sees you, and hears your prayer.
Whatever Jesus chooses to do in this moment or in the future, know this:
He sees you. He loves you. And He will never leave you.
Take one more breath.
And simply say in your heart:

If there is pain… tension… illness…
Invite Jesus to place His hand there.
Imagine His touch—steady, warm, full of compassion.
Let His healing flow:
- Through your brain . . .
- Down your spine
- Into joints and tendons
- Through your lungs
- Into your heart
- Regulating rhythm, blood flow and blood pressure.
- Into your digestive system
- Settling discomfort, bringing balance and restoring gut health.
- Through your immune system
- Down to your legs and feet
- Steadying your steps.
Now pause—and simply rest in His presence.
Jesus is the Healer.
And in His presence, healing begins.
You can ask Jesus for healing because He is good and cares about you.

And simply say in your heart:
Closing
Before we go—just one last word.
You may remember, Jesus was actually on His way to help someone else.
A father named Jairus had come to plead for his daughter’s life.
If you read the next verse after our story, Jairus receives the worst possible news:
“Your daughter is gone.”
And in that horrifying moment, Jesus turns to him and says these powerful words:
“Don’t be afraid. Just trust me.” (Mark 5:36)
Friends, that’s a word for us, too.
Whatever you're carrying in your body or your heart—
Whatever feels delayed, uncertain, or too far gone—
Jesus’ words are the same.
Don’t be afraid. Trust Him.
Because healing is in His presence.
Let’s pray.
